Johnson Family Daycare (North Hills)
Owner: Karry Johnson  Hours: 7am - 6pm  Rates: $140-150 per week  Ages: newborn to
school age.  The owner is a personal friend of mines for 9 yrs. She gave me peace of mind
caring for both of my children from newborn and up, and they love her. She is still caring for
my 1 yr old . She provides a very loving environment. She's clean, reliable, and very
affordable.

Heart of the Valley Christian School (Reseda)
The staff is very nice, the school and classrooms are clean. My daughter transitions seems
to be going pretty smoothly which is a plus. The school was recommended to me by MM

with Carrie, she's the owner AND a sista and can give you the run down on the method behind their preschool program.  We
go over to the pre-k class sometimes to check out what the "big" kids are doing...journaling, early math, phonics, working at
stations...etc.  Out of the 4 or so classrooms, 3 have African American women as instructors. They serve ages 18 months thru
pre-k.  It's a beautiful school with an excellent playground and a very "motherly" feel from the staff and very affordable.  Best
of all, 3 Mochas have attended and we all give it our "Mocha Stamp of Approval."  Check it out and BE SURE TO TELL HER
YOU'RE A MOCHA MOM!

My son Galen attends also and our experience is wonderful too!!!  MM Sylvia

Kester Avenue Elementary Pre-K Program (Sherman Oaks)
This is a Pre-k program for kids 4 years old by Dec. 1st.  It's only 2 and 1/2 hours long Monday thru Thursday BUT the kids
learn soooo much!!!  GMarie attend and she was more than ready for Kindergarten after attending this program.  It's a public
school Pre-K program so its free.  It's for neighborhood children 1st but they open it up to others if the space is available.  Try
to get Mrs. MacDonald (the kids love her even though she's a little kooky...)

Rainbow Learning Center (Winnetka)
Kyle attends Rainbow Learning Center in Winnetka.  We chose it because the school site is brand new (only 2 years old) it's
the second location.  They have been around for 17 years.  The school was built with toddler's in mind (low toilets, sinks, hand
dryers, covered yard, age appropriate play areas etc).  The classrooms are 12:2 teacher ratio.  The school is multi-cultural
with several black children in each age group.  The Director is on site all of the time and they have a full curriculum for the
3,4,5 year old classes.  They also have tons of extra-curricular activities (gymnastics, spanish, computers).  The prices are
extrmemly low and it is the cleanest school that I have ever seen.  Kyle loves going to school and Bret and I are very pleased
with his social and academic progress.  That's our school for now.

CSUN Associated Students Children's Center  (Northridge)
Infant - Pre K.   I think this is the education secret of the SFV. Its a fantastic pre-school and the misconception is that most
people think it's just for student and faculty kids. It is completley open the the community - but you may face a longer waiting
list. Its definitely a "learn through play" school, and the the toddler and 3,4 years they are concentrating on social skills
primarily. But by preK they are doing all the standard academia expections for Kindergarden. But I still say somewhat
progressive method, very loving staff, great teacher to student ratio - espcially since they have student interns there too.  The
infant class is most impressive - your baby wants for nothing.  They are tending to them all the time they are there. Very hands
on and interactive school. The best thing is its EXTREMELY diverse, since so many student's kids go there. As an example, in
Lance's class (2 1/2 to 3 1/2) there are 15 students (at maximum. But every child has a different schedule - P/T, different
days, etc - so there's rarely actually 15 in the class room) and 6 of them are African American.  There are other children of
color as well in the class. Very rare for a private school.
